Training News

In January, we started providing Training Reward Cards. Remember to bring your card with you to each training you attend in order to receive your stamp. Once you receive 5 stamps, you will receive a voucher for a FREE training, good for up to 6 months from date of issue. We have had several people redeem their free training. Good for you! Keep coming and earn that free training! Remember, this is only valid on the regular Council 2-hour trainings. (This does not include Council Clusters, Parent Education Nights, MAT trainings, or First Aid/CPR classes.)

Please remember, you must register to attend all trainings, unless otherwise noted; to register contact Darla at 473-4141 ext. 216 or Nancy at 473-4141 ext. 214. Payment must be made prior to the night of the workshop. For our Dutchess trainings, all trainings will be held in our Dutchess Office, unless otherwise stated. For our Putnam trainings, check for the location (in our calendar).

This quarter we had a variety of new and interesting workshops. Alison Kaufman from the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health shared strategies to reduce our exposure to ticks. She brought real examples of some of the various ticks found in our area (and yes, they were dead and encased in plastic blocks; so they didn’t get out). We sang songs with Tina de Leeuw of “Grow Music” and learned ways to use music to aid in classroom management. Renee Falanga-Brenner provided examples of how to modify the environment and use visual cues with children; while Jessica Vanacoro from Camp Herrlich talked about Bullying and how to identify if it really is bullying or just “children being children.” Ozie Williams, Dutchess County Public Health Nutrition Educator, discussed the growing epidemic of childhood obesity and how to help prevent the children in your care from becoming overweight/obese. Darla Fulmer shared the six strategies of Active Supervision; it really is more than just “watching” the children. Margaret Yurus from the Early intervention Program of Putnam County explained to everyone how to detect early signs of developmental disorders and strategies for helping children and their families.
