Helping Another Mother on Mother’s Day

Don’t forget, or you’ll disappoint your poor mother. Sunday May 13 is Mother’s Day, and we’re happy to help you plan a special day that honors your mother and helps others.
Every mother would prefer quality time with you to a material gift. We’re certain your mom would be happier if you spent every Mother’s Day with her instead of mailing a card or even sending flowers. But not everyone lives close enough to his or her parents to spend Mother’s Day with mom.

So instead of sending a greeting card or a bouquet of flowers, make a gift of yourself for Mother’s Day. We love the idea of doing something for other mothers in your momma’s honor.

Best Money Ever Spent
Much like Christmas, gift giving gets expensive and distracts givers and recipients from the very reason for exchanging gifts. We still think you should give a gift on Mother’s Day, but not to your mother. Make a donation to your mom’s favorite charity in her name.

Mommy & Me
Help out another mother in commemoration of Mother’s Day and in honor of her sacrifices for you. Volunteer for a cause or a group that’s dear to her heart. Especially if you spend the day working at a woman’s shelter or an organization that helps children, your day will be more meaningful and full of love than any Mother’s Day before it.

Give and Don’t Receive
A little spring cleaning on Sunday afternoon would do others good. Clean out your family’s closets and donate gently used or outgrown clothing. Give the clothes to families with children who need them more. You can also clean out your children’s bookshelves and toy boxes. This is an especially thoughtful donation because charities benefiting low-income families don’t enjoy the same attention this time of year as they do around the holidays.

Motherhood essentially boils down to benevolence and a giving heart. Mom gave you life and took care of you, so honor her selflessness by taking care of others on Mother’s Day.
