Childhood obesity rates have tripled over the last three decades and currently nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese. Because of lifestyle changes children today live very different lives than their parents and grandparents. These changes are putting our youngest children at greater risk for developing life threatening health problems at younger ages. The good news is that we can do something about it. By making a conscious effort to change the foods and beverages we serve and how we serve them, to make small changes in the daily routine to add more physical activity throughout the day, to encourage breastfeeding and to reduce the amount of time children spend with screen media, we can make a difference.
During this Videoconference training we will take a look at some of the reasons that childhood obesity has been on the rise. We’ll review the Let’s Move Child Care five goal areas that will help children get off to a healthy start in life, with a greater focus on defining what screen time is and providing you with practical tips to help you reduce the amount of screen time you provide in your program so you can comply with the screen time goals.
